Wow! This is really happening! Welcome to Black Girl Meets World, my personal travel diary. I’ll share travel tips, help you discover hidden gems in some of my favorite destinations, and more.
Launching #BlackGirlMeetsWorld on my 25th birthday holds a special significance to me. The concept has been a dream of mine since I was 11 years old, but it took all these years for me to find a personal freedom to tell myself, “Girl, just do it!”
Why a travel blog?
Travel’s profound impact on me started at a very early age. I’ll never forget the trans-Atlantic flights to Kitzingen, Germany to my father ‘s new military duty station. I spent my early childhood living in a foreign country, experienced Oktoberfest celebrations, and began to learn basic Deutsche. 4-years old me didn’t understand it then, but having the freedom of uninhibited curiosity to explore new places made life more meaningful.
Luckily, I never lost that feeling. I experience an amazing level of intimacy with the world when I travel. Engaging with locals, tasting new foods, learning the rich history and cultures of destinations; it all brings me peace that I haven’t found through any other experience. I was inspired by the idea of exploring a new place and it feeling instantly familiar as I wandered around. I’ve grown to appreciate that travel fosters a sense of endless curiosity and having a worldly perspective inspires compassion. Each time that I return home, the world around me becomes equal parts familiar and unexplored. I look forward to sharing my journey with you through Black Girl Meets World.

I’ve been enchanted with the magical powers of New Orleans, written love notes in a coffee shop in Calgary, felt the freshness of the sand and the coolness of midnight tides in San Diego. I’ve wandered aimlessly through the streets of Paris while basking in the golden glow of the Eiffel Tower and watched friends exchange vows on Cancun beaches. I’ve even bravely battled in epic water fights with local Costa Rican children beneath a waterfall. Each of these adventures and the countless others all shaped the traveler I am today.
I’ll share with you some of the best backyard gems as well, as my travel tips to make your journies a little more hassle-free. You’ll even get a glimpse at excerpts from my travel diary (I have a real one) where I rant about everything from how to convince the middle seat passenger that the arm rest is mine to the many emotions one experiences when they miss their flight home.
I hope in all my travels that I leave my destinations with a bit more love in my heart and purpose in my soul. More importantly, I hope that you’ll join me!
Be sure to connect with me for your first-class ticket to all of my adventures.
