Before 2020, I never imagined I’d be strategizing on how to get my hands on a pint of ice cream. Yep, ice cream. As a craft ice cream aficionado, I’m proud to announce my induction into the uber exclusive Underground Creamery fan club.

In just two months of “above ground” operation, Underground Creamery debuted 34+ mind-blowing ice cream concepts. From classics like Madagascar vanilla to an ambitious Thanksgiving menu that included butternut squash ice cream with pepitas and pistachios, there’s a reason so many ice cream lovers anxiously await each week’s release.
I “played the game” and here are 4 reasons you should, too.
1. Your Favorite Houston Foodies Love Underground Creamery
I followed Josh Deleon (@eatsgonewild) after drooling over what appeared to be some secret society foodie perk. My friend Julie Julez posted one of Deleon’s ice cream creations on Instagram. Soon enough, I discovered that all my favorite Houston foodies are fans. If we can collectively agree that Underground Creamery is awesome, you should trust our judgement. 😊
2. Playing the Game Is Stressful, but Worth It!
In early October, Deleon announced his operations were moving above ground, and I knew I had to get in on the action. Week 1’s menu went live and I to my sweet time browsing the options to decide what I wanted. By the time I refreshed my browser, everything sold out. Yes, in less than 10 minutes! I’m dealing with SNKRS app stress levels for… ice cream (this is what my 2020 has come to.)
Now that I knew what I was dealing with, I knew I had to be better prepared. I was DETERMINED to get my hands on at least one point during Week 2’s menu drop. It was my birthday and I deserved! Well, the birthday gawds blessed ya girl, and I got my hands on not one, but TWO pints of artisanal goodness.
While both pints were delicious, let’s talk about the pint that converted me…
If you follow me on Instagram, you likely witnessed my IG friends berate me and my love for mint chocolate. Who knew so many people felt so strong (and wrong) about mint chocolate? I LOVE a good, quality chocolate and mint dessert and this Underground Creamery’s Fudgey Mint Cookies and Cream is one of the best I’ve ever had.
After such an amazing first time experience, I knew I had to play the game as often as I could. Over several weeks, I kept my eyes peeled for each week’s menu drop. Sometimes I won, sometimes I took an L, but I never stopped playing. I’ve even hooked up a few friends who weren’t as lucky as me in the pint grab. Stan my benevolence!
Which leads me to my next point:
3. Underground Creamery’s Flavors are OTHERWORDLY.
With 4-6 flavors dropped each week (usually on Thursdays,) it’s very rare to see a repeated flavor. However, that’s the best part of the game – we’re on a journey with Underground Creamery! What’s going to inspire DeLeon next?
If you’re lucky enough to catch the ordering window, grab what piques your interest, and be merry. The really adventurous ice cream lovers should opt for the infamous mystery pints – an “everything but the kitchen sink” pint of deliciousness.
In no particular order, here are a few of the pints I’ve scooped up from Underground Creamery.

4. Underground Creamery’s Commitment to #NoHoedPints
I appreciate Underground Creamery’s commitment to quality. When Josh DeLeon says, “no hoed pints,” he means it! Each small batch pint is filled to the brim with all the goodies promised.
Seriously, the ratio of mix-ins to ice cream is insane! If there’s caramel, you’re getting a caramel swirl all up and throughout the pint. Chunks of cookies, cakes, chips and more? It’s all there, down to the last spoonful!
Final Thoughts on Underground Creamery
