I visited right when they opened for the day, so I didn’t have to wait to order. When I eyeballed the menu hoping to make the right decision, the staff assured me everything was popular so I couldn’t go wrong. Everything sounded great, so I went with what I know to always be good choices: Brisket and boudin.
The Big Tex Fries (Small)
Yes, there are fries under there! The Big Tex, a nod to the iconic State Fair of Texas statue, is a bed of crispy fries covered with a generous portion of smoked chopped brisket, sour cream, shredded cheese, BBQ sauce, jalapeños, and green onions.
They also serve a Vegan Big Tex made with Jack Fruit and vegan cheese.
Chicken Boudin Egg Rolls
Although loaded fries are their specialty, the boudin egg rolls are a crowd favorite, and for good reason!
Boudin (also spelled “boudain”) is a Cajun/Creole seasoned rice mixture that typically includes pork and pork liver. The French Fry House serves both traditional boudin and chicken boudin egg rolls – I opted for the chicken. It’s served with a sweet chili sauce that’s more sweet than spicy, but pairs well with the egg rolls. I’d order this again and again and again.
Final Thoughts on The French Fry House
Good food and great customer service go a long way with me. The French Fry House serves up both, so I’ll definitely be back to eat my way through the rest of the menu. However, I’m going to order those egg rolls every single time.
