It’s no secret how much I love New Orleans! Each visit to the “Big Easy” brings a new adventure in a city that always feels so intimately familiar. So, what’s my favorite thing to do in New Orleans? Eat. From arrival to departure, I obsessively plan every meal (and snack.)
While I’m intentional about making each of my visits to New Orleans a unique foodie adventure, my pre-departure breakfast is always an early morning stop at Stanley of New Orleans.
Cusine: | Traditional Louisiana fare; all-day breakfast |

Located in the heart of the French Quarter at the corner of Jackson Square, this airy cafe offers all the comfort breakfast foods perfect for curing hangovers, keeping you full for the trip home or priming your stomach for another wild night in the French Quarter. The staff is friendly and the dishes are hearty. Here are a few Stanley of New Orleans menu staples to try when you visit New Orleans.
CORNED BEEF HASH
GUMBO
Stanley of New Orleans has great restaurant gumbo. Yes, that’s a qualification, because I maintain that the best gumbo is made with love and familiarity from someone’s home kitchen. However, a piping hot bowl of Stanley’s gumbo featuring Shrimp, Oysters, Chicken, and Andouille Sausage is good for the soul.
A POOR BOY
Did you go to New Orleans if you don’t try a po’ boy? No, seriously! This regional sandwich is a staple with a great culinary history. Ask a local about the history of the po’ boys, because it’s more magical. There are dozens of places to try a po’ boy and I can’t say that I’ve ever had a bad one, but the poor boys at Stanley of New Orleans are worth the order. I’ve only had the fried soft shell crab option, but my foodie companions swear by the shrimp and oyster po’ boys, as well.
Final Thoughts
A breakfast stop at Stanley of New Orleans is almost ritualistic for me. Whether you’re in New Orleans to be a tourist or a want to blend in like a low key local, you deserve a hearty breakfast at least one day. Before or after the Bourbon street debauchery is your choice.
