It’s been a while since I published anything. As I approach Black Girl Meets World’s first anniversary, I decided to dig in the crates and blow dust off some drafts. One of my favorite adventures this year was a random getaway girls’ trip with women from Houston Travel Crew. Who would have thought the highlight of my trip to the city of Angels manifest in the form of a departure brunch? Baldwin Hills’ Post & Beam is a foodie gem if I’ve ever found one.
How did I end up in Los Angeles? Thanks to the travel gods, I snagged a roundtrip ticket on United for $137. A weekend consumed with great food and adventure. What more could a travel junkie ask for?
Our weekend was low-key, but adventured-filled. Most importantly, I crossed off another item on my Travel Goals list: I climbed up Runyon Canyon!
That brutal and hungover hike up Runyon Canyon was just what I needed to reward myself with bottomless mimosa at Post & Beam.
Located in Baldwin Hills neighborhood, Post & Beam is tucked away in an unassuming concrete jungle of a shopping center. The restaurant‘s interior is a stark contrast, with its earth tone colors and cafe layout
If Post & Beam isn’t busy and the weather is nice, opt for patio seating! The restaurant’s blooming living walls serve as the perfect backdrop for good conversation and even better bites. We were even lucky enough to score the table next to the kitchen’s herb garden. Imagine my delight as the cooks wandered out there to pick the very herbs that would end up on my plate!
What I ate:
Brunch isn’t really brunch without bottomless mimosa, so it’s a given I ordered the 90-minute service. Challenge accepted!
I also ordered the pecan pie french toast and it’s the best french toast I’ve ever head! Full stop. There’s an art to achieving the perfect french toast texture and any real french toast connoisseuse knows this. French toast that is equal parts toasty and buttery in all the right places? Yasss!
The warm flavors of vanilla, cinnamon, all spice, cloves, and nutmeg worked well with the syrupy Bourbon glaze over fresh pecans.
Best. French. Toast. Ever.
Post & Beam’s menu changes regularly like any respectable restaurant’s menu should. I will eat here every time I’m in LA. No, that’s not hyperbole. Oh, yeah! I got to meet one of my favorite chefs and judges from Top Chefs.
Good drinks, delicious food, gorgeous views and good vibes. Post & Beam made Sunday brunch feel like I was the cool friend on BET’s defunct Baldwin Hills and I couldn’t have asked for more.
