Just two weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic rocked the world, “a fried chicken joint” opened in downtown Houston’s Finn Hall. I saw raving reviews about about LIT Chicken in a “Black Owned Restaurants” Facebook group and knew I had to try it!

At LIT Chicken, which stands for “Lost in Transition”, Chef Ross Coleman explores the flavors of West Africa with menu offerings like loaded jollof rice, chicken and pounded yam dumplings, and fried chicken (of course!)
I recommend taking advantage of their online ordering system. I ordered online, got my order wait time, then headed to Finn Hall in downtown Houston. My pickup was seamless and the food was well packaged for me to enjoy at home.
My order
We ordered the “eight pieces and three sides combo” and this was more than enough for two people – Hello, leftovers.
I consider myself a fried chicken enthusiast (totally a thing,) and I’m comfortable stating LIT Chicken is some of THE BEST fried chicken I’ve ever had from a restaurant! Their 48-hour brined chicken is juicy and the skin is crunchy with a a lot of flavor and a little bit of spice.
For sides, we chose the cauliflower au gratin, mac and cheese, and southern braised greens. While I enjoyed the cheesy side dishes, the spicy greens were my favorite!
Final Thoughts on LIT Chicken?
This is a no-brainer! The service was fast and efficient (even with COVID-19 accommodations) and the food is fantastic. Is it too provocative to say the best fried chicken in Houston is located in a downtown food hall?
